NPR Plays Chris Rock’s Michael Jackson Routine In Story Announcing MJ’s Death

Friday June 26, 2009 6:54 AM

When we first heard about the tragic passing of Michael Jackson, we were in our car listening to NPR, because we have genius-level IQs and wear tweed. In NPR’s official breaking news look-back obit, when they got to the child molestation accusations, they actually played Chris Rock’s bit on the Jacksons from his TV special (and album) Never Scared. You know, “We love Michael Jackson so much, we let the first kid slide,” that bit. Here’s the link– Rock comes in at about 4:28.

Michael Jackson was hugely influential. But wow, so’s Chris Rock. A national news organization (granted, one for eggheads) used his joke to sum up how a nation felt about Michael Jackson. DURING MICHAEL JACKSON’S OBITUARY STORY. And they must have felt that America would be familiar with Chris Rock, appreciate the material, and not be offended. (It’s not like they could play Triumph at the Michael Jackson trials.) They even bleeped the f-word for him. Congratulations, Chris Rock. You are now America’s Blunt Yet Hilarious Eulogist.
