Andy Rooney Has Complex Feelings About Fruit

Monday July 13, 2009 9:45 AM

In the clip below, from last night’s 60 Minutes, Andy Rooney reminds America to call their grandfathers. And also why America doesn’t want to call their grandfathers. Our grandfathers are dead, but we like to imagine them just like this: hobbling around the fruit markets of New York, touching every melon with their “hands”, the presence of an accompanying camera crew the only thing keeping the fruit market staff from phoning local nursing homes and alerting them to a well-dressed possible escapee.

God bless you, Andy Rooney. In an age of increasingly vapid and shallow reality TV, you are one of the last TV personalities America can be proud of. We’re sorry that, in the course of the video below, you shrank two inches.
