In 1991, confirmed comic genius Robert Smigel and his confirmed comic genius buddy Conan O’Brien created one of the funniest TV pilots of the ’90s (ever?). And here it is! You can watch it below! Thanks, YouTube and Early Nineties TV Industry With Lack Of Vision And Faulty Sense Of Humor. “Lookwell” starred Adam West as a washed-up cop show star who has delusions of being an actual competent crime-solver. When not teaching terrible acting classes to also-deluded Hollywood wannabes, Lookwell inserts himself into police investigations, as the cops look on with varying degrees of tolerance/bemusement/anger. It’s a hundred times better than how we just described it, and about 20 years ahead of its time (its time is the future). So take 22 minutes and watch some genius, then congratulate “Lookwell” on its induction into the TV Comedy Hall Of Fame.
