Life has changed tremendously from the days depicted in “Mad Men.” Even if there really was a time when women bowed down to their bosses and so quickly gave into their sexual advances all while doing their job effectively, those times are long gone. Even more so on television.
Some TV secretaries were truly awful. Between trying to kill you or accidentally burning down the office, I have to wonder if anyone does reference checks anymore. Who are these horrific office workers? I’ve searched my TV, and found what I consider to be the 10 Worst TV Secretaries.
10. Laura – “Dr. Katz”
She had so little interest in her work and so much desire to be setting new and awkward fashion trends. In a place that needed healing, she would rather see the patients leap from a window rather than talk to them.
9. Sydney Andrews – “Melrose Place”
Sydney was a schizophrenic workaholic who was so nutsy she made her boss (Amanda) look well balanced. Between her dying, coming back to life, killing people, revenge, sex and revenge sex… when did she actually have time to make copies?
8. Beth – “News Radio”
Beth spent most of her days butting into other people’s business and trying to find creative ways to sleep with men. She was not very good with dictation, but you can assume she had quite the fire down below.
7. Mimi Bobeck – “The Drew Carey Show”
She was Drew’s arch-nemesis who vowed to make his life a living Hell. She was overbearing, over made up and spent her work hours pranking employees instead of doing any actual work.
6. Agnes DiPesto – “Moonlighting”
Her determination to help out her bosses (Dave and Mattie) often translated into bumbling efforts and additional work to get the case solved. Not only that, her voice drove everyone batty.
5. Helga – “Hogan’s Heroes”
It’s not that she was horrible at her secretarial duties, it was more that she was sleeping with prisoners and giving away valuable information allowing dozen of captured men to escape. She made her bosses look incompetent to the Fuhrer.
4. Kitty – “Arrested Development”
No matter how fast she could take notes, the whole insanity thing was more than the audience could deal with. Also, all that breast flashing became distracting… in the best way possible.
3. Antoinette – “Curb Your Enthusiasm”
Imagine having a secretary that caused you nothing but grief, mishandled her job and knew everything about you. What can you do about it? Kiss her ass and hope she takes the occasional message correctly.
2. Jennifer Marlowe – “WKRP In Cincinnati”
It is debatable whether she was one of the worst secretaries ever or she just never had any work to do. Great hair and a nice rack don’t always work well on a employee review, but doesn’t mean she’s not great stare at.
1. Mrs. Wiggins – “Carol Burnett Show”
Ditsy and unable or uninterested in focusing on her work, Mrs. Wiggins was the out of control secretary of Mr. Tudball. She lacked any skill that would actually qualify her as an office assistant, but then again it was pretty difficult to make out what her boss was asking for.
